Casa Bonay

Barcelona, Spain

The Casa Bonay Hotel hired Ausias Perez and myself to design the wayfinding system and other signage for the hotel and implement it all by hand.

The hotel is located in a magnificent 19th century building in the Eixample Dreta of Barcelona. This modernist palace was originally built in 1869 under the orders of Antonio Bonay and was restored to its current state to serve as a hotel starting in 2015. In order to preserve the building's rich aesthetic past we took inspiration from the original 19th century enamel signs found in the building. First the alphabet had to be entirely redrawn by hand and was later processed and adjusted to create a useable font that could be utilized for any signage throughout the hotel. The font became the basis for all wayfinding signage as well as the name on the facade of the hotel. Other hand-painted details and logos were also painted for the hotel restaurant, cafe, and bar.
